History

St. Francis of Assisi Parish School opened its doors to the Silver Lake community on September 6, 1938. The school was staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame, it began with an enrollment of ninety- two (92) students in the eighth (8) grades.  A kindergarten was added in September of 1983. Presently St. Francis of Assisi Parish School is staffed by a Lay Principal and 9 full-time teacher, one part- time PE teacher and a full-time Secretary. St. Francis of Assisi Parish school also offer a After Care program for our parents who work and are unable to pick their children up to 6pm. Our 2004-2005 enrollments is at 225 students.

 The School is located outside of Downtown Los Angeles where most of the Families are of middle class, low-middle class, and working class income.  The students population is composed of mostly Latinos and Filipinos with a small percentage of others various ethnic groups.  The school draws from over twenty (20) parishes in the area, but with some families commuting from the Valley and as far as West Covina.

Mr. Frank Paul Cavallo has worked in Catholic Education for more than twenty- three years as a teacher and brings much enthusiasm and expertise to his position here at St. Francis of Assisi.
